About Us
The Center for Smoking Cessation at Seton Health
The Center for Smoking Cessation at Seton Health covers an eight-county region including Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Green, Columbia, Schoharie, Otsego and Delaware Counties. There are 19 cessation centers throughout New York State funded by the NYS Department of Health Tobacco Control Program. The goal of the cessation centers is to train and educate healthcare institutions to provide counseling and other resources to help tobacco users quit.
Ultimately, our mission is to help people stop smoking and prevent others from starting, by using evidence based resources and programs to create a healthier New York.
Tobacco-Free Healthy Schools
The Center for Smoking Cessation manages a contract working with Rensselaer County School District's grade 8-12. This program assists schools in enforcing a comprehensive tobacco free policy. A School Outreach Specialist provides, at no cost to schools, technical assistance and resources; "Tobacco Free Zone" signage; development programs on teen cessation and alternatives to suspension, and nationally recognized speakers.
